Northern Guilford offers a wide variety of educational advancement programs.

HONORS PROGRAMS

Honors courses go into greater depth and have a more rigorous curriculum. Students are recommended by teachers for

Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, but Northern Guilford has an open enrollment policy. AP courses are

weighted on a 6-point scale, Honors courses on a 5-point scale, and all other courses on a 4-point scale. Some courses are not offered every year since offerings require a minimum enrollment. In addition, online courses are available from the   North Carolina Virtual Public High School / GCSVPS Guilford County Schools Virtual Public School.

Athletics:

The Northern Men's Golf Team Won the 2010 3A State Title. Northern Women's Golf Team 2011 & 2013 3A State Runner-Up Northern Men's Track and Field Team 2011 3A State Runner-Up Northern Men's Track and Field Team 2012 3A State Champion.

The Northern Guilford Nighthawks Football have won 3 consecutive 3AA State Championships, defeating Crest High School in 2010 and 2011 and Charlotte Catholic in the 2012 championship game.

The Nighthawks were coached by Johnny Roscoe. Roscoe was the only football coach in the Nighthawks' history. Roscoe went 65-6 during his tenure and retired Feb 1, 2013 after coaching the Nighthawks to victory in each of Northern's last 29 contests.

Notable athletic alumni include San Diego Charger WR Keenan Allen, Carolina Tar Heel RB, and NC State cross country runner Park Groves
